“The theme this month is A Little Steamy. Use images, pieces, or parts that embrace the steampunk genre. Use your imagination and have fun with it. We can't wait to see what you come up with! Also, don't forget the S&S rule that is has to be stamped somewhere (digi stamps are fine).”

Those were our instructions…and this is what I came up with…

100_6064

100_6060

And here you can see the size of the little composition book…

100_6059

I used a small sheet of aluminum and embossed it, then I used some Copics on it for color, then I used a little sanding block to remove some of the color and make it look more distressed, then I stuck on a couple of gears and the Bluebird Rider image from Smeared Ink.  And there you have it!  A fancy new cover for my little notebook!

This also goes along with the current challenge over at Smudgy Antics – Alter Something.

Thanks for looking, and happy hopping!

November Bombshell Sketch

We have a new sketch challenge up on the Bombshell blog.  Here’s the awesome sketch that Kathi gave us this month to work with…

11-11

And here’s the card I made…

100_6027

The main image and sentiment are from the Western Gal digi set from Bombshell Stamps.  I used the small star stamp from the Bombshell Angel set to make the star pattern on the kraft cardstock.

Hope you have a chance to play along with this great sketch!

ADFD Challenge #30

Journal Pages x2

I’m terribly behind on things.  Here are mine and my daughter’s pages from last week…

100_6030

The theme was to use stickers or tapes, etc. on our pages.  I used TH tissue tape, and one of my daughter’s ladybug stickers.:)

And this week’s pages…

100_6046

100_6053

This week’s challenge was "Heart to Heart"

I love my daughter’s page this week!  She said the playing card guys are like the ones from Alice in Wonderland.:)

For my page I used a layer of gesso that I textured up a bit, then a light wash of blue watercolor paint, then acrylic paints.  Writing was done with a white gel pen.

And as for the words on my page…well, I went through a really rough time about 12 years ago, and the words around the center are from a poem I wrote back then…

Meaningless vows of eternity
he did bestow 'pon me
"Forevermore", Nevermore
"Je t'adore", Nevermore
Abandoned in the heights
to sink below the depths
Showing no care of blade
Blade almost put to use
Still no remorse
Still no answers
E'en a year passed
Forevermore, Nevermore...

But then I met my husband and things began to look up…thus the “time heals” bit on the heart hourglass.

Just a little glimpse into my secret self there.;)

My Memories Giveaway!

Hello!  I was recently given the opportunity to try out the My Memories Suite.  Now, I had never really tried digital scrapbooking software before, so I was a bit skeptical of whether or not I would like it, to be honest.  But I must say that I am glad I gave it a try!  It’s actually very easy to use.  And I may be able to finally get caught up on some scrapbooking now.:)

And what’s more, I’m being allowed to give a copy of the scrapbook software to one of you!

To enter please visit My Memories and check out the variety of digital scrapbooking kits available, then come back here and let me know what peaks your interest.(just leave me a comment on this post about it)  I’ll give you until 9pm (Eastern) next Monday, November 14th to leave your comment, and then I’ll draw a random winner.

I downloaded the Don’t Look Under the Bed! kit and used some of the elements from it to make this page…

First Album-002

It only took me a few minutes to make this page, too!

Here’s another page I put together just using some of the elements that were included with the software…

75218978b

You can also import graphics and things from your own image collections to create all kinds of other projects.  I’ll try to show you some of the other things I’ve been working on soon.

And if you don’t want to wait for the giveaway to end, or you really want to get your hands on the scrapbook software right now you can use the code STMMMS70779 for $10 off the software.

I made a sample for you.:)  I made some charms using Bombshell Angel.

Bombshell Scavenger Hunt!

The Bombshell Forum re-launch party is getting underway!

I’ll be back later today with a challenge for you, but first I wanted to let you know about the Bombshell Scavenger Hunt!

All you have to do is visit the Bombshell’s blogs and look for the Senora Muerta logo.  It will be hidden.  But, it should be hidden in a post involving Bombshell Stamps, so that will help narrow down your searching a little on the blogs.  Once you’ve found Senora Muerta on as many blogs as you can then you’re going to need to email Glittery Katie at thecelticwitch@googlemail.com and let her know the addresses of the blogs and the dates of the posts you found them in.  There are prizes up for grabs to those who spot the most logos!

And yes, I do have a Senora Muerta logo hidden somewhere on my blog, so get looking!:)

See you later for more fun!  Don’t forget to check back at the forum from time to time to see what new games and challenges have been posted.

Pink and Green Ribbons

I’ve been meaning to do this post all month.  Most people are aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but a lot of people don’t know that it’s also Depression Awareness Month, which is symbolized by a green ribbon.

Both of my grandmothers had breast cancer.  One of them is a survivor.  My other grandmother received treatments for her breast cancer, but they didn’t get rid of all of it and it spread to her lungs and killed her.

Please remember to do your monthly self-exams.  And if you’re over a certain age, please don’t put off having your mammograms.

I made this card using Lynne Stansbery’s Shy Bear-Show Your Support image and Marlene’s Hope ribbon.

100_6009

100_6010

I think I’m going to give this card to my surviving grandmother, since she’s a bit attached to anything with a pink ribbon on it.

On to the next card.  Most people know someone who suffers from depression, whether they realize it or not.  I myself have struggled with it.  One of my friends killed herself.  Multiple others have attempted it.  People who have never been through these kinds of things often struggle to understand the how and why of it all.  Well, honestly, I don’t expect people to understand completely.  But what I do appreciate is a non-judging ear.  Someone who is quick to listen, but not quick to dismiss my feelings as trivial.  And if I don’t feel like talking, just knowing that someone is there for me, and that they really do need me in their life helps a lot.  Just some personal feelings of my own.

Please, tell the people you love that you love them.  Make sure they know that you are glad to have them in your life, that they really are needed.

100_6007

Thanks for taking the time to read this post, it means a lot to me.

hugs,

Laura

Week 13 Journal Pages

Lucky Number was the theme for this past week’s journal pages, so we were supposed to base our page on a number that was significant to us, whether it be lucky, or unlucky.

9 is my favorite number.  I have various reasons for this, but one reason I love this number is because my children’s names begin with I and X, thus forming the roman numeral for 9.  Also, my husband and I have been married for 9 years.:)

LAURA_BOYD_WEEK13

Of course, my daughter outdid me with her page this week…

100_5976

Now every Friday she asks me what the new theme is and goes off to create her own journal page.:)

But my son couldn’t be left out.  I walked into the front room and found him “doing some cwafting” ,he said…

100_5977v2

(don’t worry, I took the Cropadile away before he could hurt himself)

Now we just have to get my husband to join in, lol!

Sassy Progressive Relay Round 2

Wow.  I started this project yesterday, but I’m still getting this in close to the wire.  Ugh.  One day I’ll get something done in plenty of time.  Anyway, the challenge for this round was:  “Create a project using Steampunk Amelia plus a clock(s) and/or gears!”  Please visit Sassy Studio Designs for more details about this relay and celebration.:)

Of course I couldn’t just do a quick and simple card… I just had to try something new.  Silly me.  I can now say I have made a napkin fold card…
